History of Hope Valley Ranching, by Laurie Hickey
In the 1870s, Hope Valley was dotted with mining claims and criss-crossed with livestock fences. The early white settlers operated dairies, lumber mills, and stock grazing here during the summer months. In the winter, they moved down into Carson Valley. Laurie Hickey is a descendant of these pioneer families, and she shares her first-hand knowledge of the ranching history of Hope Valley.
